Win Lwin Oo told Mizzima he reported the damages to the Yay Phyu Township Police Station in order to sue the company on June 21.
However, he said, a representative of ITD invited him to negotiate the following day, and some 20 staff from ITD visited the fields and entered into a negotiation.
“We counted the number of plants. We made a draft agreement for the payment of 13.5 million kyat (over US$14,000) for the 600 plants as compensation,” said Win Lwin Oo. “The company said they would settle within a week.”
Thirteen other farmland owners similarly affected have also reportedly agreed terms with ITD.
