As Myanmar’s economy continues to open up to foreign investment, the country is posting a trade deficit of US$4 billion for the first nine months of the 2014-15 fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Commerce’s latest figures.

Thailand and Myanmar plan to have a joint trade committee meeting next month in an attempt to boost two-way trade and investment, according to the Bangkok Post.
The Mizo National Front in northeast India has attacked the local Congress Party government for its plans to buy rice from Myanmar, facilitated by the extension to the Silchar-Lumding railway line, according to a report from Mizonews.net on December 11.

Nay Pyi Taw – The Lower House is planning to adjust a Myanmar gems bill to remove total government control over the lucrative gems industry.
Myanmar and Thailand’s chambers of commerce have held discussions in the Mae Sot Thailand-Myanmar border town to draw up a joint master plan to develop special economic zones in both countries, according to The Nation.
