Althoughthe Myanmar national football team has only played an international friendly match so far this season, it has managed to jump up thirteen positions in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings.

It is currently ranked 149th in the world and 25th in the AFC (Asian Football Confederation).

However, an editor from a local sports journal argued that these recent rankings are disputable.

“What we know is that the FIFA rankings are based on the opposing team’s ranking and the results of the match,” he said. “Myanmar has only played one match with Hong Kong in September. The teams from Vietnam and Indonesia are currently playing qualifier matches, so I am not sure how FIFA came to these decisions so early.”
