The Volleyball Federation of Myanmar has been awarded the honour of hosting the first ever Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship, to be held in May 2015.

The tournament will be played out at the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium, that was built for the 2013 Southeast Asian Games, in Nay Pyi Taw between May 12-20.

The championship will becontested by up to 16 Asian countries, including Myanmar as hosts. Myanmar did not send a team to contest the ASEAN University Games, currently been held in Indonesia, that were won by neighbours Thailand.

The Asian Championships will serve as the qualification tournament for the 2015 FIVB Men’s U23 World Volleyball Championship in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates from August 24 to 31.

Myanmar’s Volleyball players will be hoping to emulate the success of the nation’s football juniors, who while hosting the Asian U19 Championships, surprised many to reach the semi-finals and in doing so, secure a berth at the FIFA U20 World Cup.
