Myanmar U-22 football team  will play against Omen in AFC U-22 Championship in January next year at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, official media reported Friday.

The group matches of the final stage will be held from Jan.11 to 16, the quarterfinals on Jan.19 and 20, semifinals on Jan.23, the third place match on Jan.25 and final on Jan.26 at Muscat of Omen, said the New Light of Myanmar.

86 year old cyclist U Pyoo told Mizzima on August 27 that he will cycle from Sittwe in Rakhine State to Naypyitaw, in honor of the 27th SEA Games that will be hosted by Myanmar.

He added that he will start the 500 miles bicycle journey in October and it may take about one month to complete the journey.

Myanmar tentatively selected hockey teams are undergoing training at the Theinbyu artificial Turf Pitch in Yangon as of March ahead of the 27th SEA Games to be hosted in Myanmar in December this year, official media reported Wednesday.

The men's tentatively selected team is constituted with outstanding youth players from Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air), Myanmar Police Force, Theinbyu Youth team and SMART team while the women's team is formed with players from the Ministry of Sports, said the New Light of Myanmar.

A Myanmar official daily Friday urged the country's athletes to make strenuous efforts to sweep gold medals in every kind of sports constituted in the 27th Southeast Asian Games to be held in December this year.

"The long-awaited 27th SEA Games is drawing near and the government is providing necessary assistance to the athletes," said the New Light of Myanmar in an editorial, adding that Myanmar athletes are under intensive training to achieve success in every kind of sports as being the host country.

The Myanmar U-23 soccer team will play against Yangon United Football Club of Myanmar National League at Thuwanna Stadium here on Saturday ahead of the Merdeka Cup, according to sports source Thursday.

As a preparedness for Merdeka Cup which will take place in Malaysia on Sept. 7-14, the Myanmar U-23 soccer team has planned to play three matches in which the U-23 team beat Ayeyawaddy United FC 3-1 on Wednesday.

Myanmar national U-23 team will take part in the Merdeka Cup 2013 to be held from Sept. 7 to 14, official media reported Monday.

The Merdeka Cup with the participation of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar will be held in commemoration for the Malaysian National Day, said the New Light of Myanmar.

The four teams will play the cup in group matches. The teams in first and second positions are to compete in the final match. On Sept. 14, the final and third place matches will be held.
