Bagan, which topped the readers’ charts in 2014, “takes a close second place – proving that not only are our readers an intrepid bunch, they have fantastic taste, too,” according to the magazine’s Wanderlust Travel Awards 2015 released on January 29.
Laung Prabang in Laos came in first, followed by Bagan and then Stockholm. Bagan ranked number one in the 2014 ranking.
The magazine says they asked their readers to tell them their favourite destinations, airlines, airports, gear, guidebooks and more in their annual Travel Awards Survey. The results were announced by TV presenter and keen traveller Ms Julia Bradbury at the Destinations Show 2015 in Olympia, London, on January 29.
Myanmar came in ninth in the Top Country ranking with New Zealand at number one. Papua New Guinea ranked as the Top Emerging Destination.
Myanmar has been growing as a popular world tourist destination since the country began opening up in 2011, with the government setting its sights on welcoming 4.5 million tourists in 2015.
