The Myanmar and Chinese authorities plan to crack down on illegal timber trading routes along their long mutual border.

More than 100 foreigners and 20 Myanmar nationals have been arrested for illegal logging in an area of Kachin State near the border with China, media reports said on January 6.
The Tatmadaw and the forestry police have been assisting with efforts to intercept timber being illegally exported to China from throughout upper Myanmar, a senior official with the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry told Mizzima on May 7.
The Myanmar local military authorities have arrested 31 timber smugglers along with some small firearms and ammunition in a special operation against illegal logging and timber smuggling in Mansi, northernmost Kachin state, state media reported Friday.
